Sale / Trafficking / Large Commercial Quantity

If you traffic a controlled drug—such as ecstacy, cocaine or heroin—you have committed an offence. Furthermore, it is also a separate offence to traffic controlled drugs in a prescribed area i.e. a licensed premises or public area or event, such as the beach or a music festival.

Penalties will differ based on the quantity of the drug being trafficked:

  • Large commercial quantity (100 plants or 2kg)—maximum fine of $500,000 and/or life in prison
  • Commercial quantity (20 plants or 1kg)— maximum fine of $200,000 and/ or 25 years in prison
  • Trafficable quantity (10 plants or 250g)—maximum fine of $50,000 and/or 10 years in prison
  • Traffic in the prescribed area— maximum fine of $75,000 and/ or 15 years in prison
